A Good Day to Be a Duck

Last week, I arrived at the Owen Park Band Shell a little early; I play oboe in the Eau Claire Municipal Band, and we weren’t supposed to be set up and ready to play until 7:00 pm. That gave me about 15 minutes to wander around the park.

Actually, the more accurate verb was “slosh.” I realized I wasn’t the only one exploring; the river had risen and was lapping curiously at some of the park’s trees.

It wasn’t an especially good day to be a tree, but it was an excellent day to be a duck.

Ducks enjoy their newly expanded swimming range.

Also a goose.

A goose guards her goslings as they play in the park.

Sometimes nature needs a change of pace too.

  1. Your title is enchanting – so are the ducks, very like the ones that paddle across our lake. I love your photo captions!
