Scrabble Monster

Sage the Scrabble Player

Sage recently went through a brief but passionate love affair with Scrabble, an affair that was sparked when my sister-in-law Tami introduced me to the addictively Scrabble-like “Words With Friends” app.

We were inspired to dig out our old Scrabble board and play the old-fashioned way. It seemed like the game was taking root; Paul even bought replacement tiles and a Scrabble dictionary to nurture Sage’s budding talent. My English major’s heart was warmed by the sight of my progeny bent over the board, studying his letters with an intensity normally reserved for video games.

Alas, like so many of Sage’s other passions, this one passed quickly. The Scrabble board is now keeping the chess board company as they quietly gather dust under his bed.

But ah, it was lovely while it lasted.

When Sage made an especially good play, he could become a regular Scrabble Monster.

  1. I’d love for Sage to be a scrabble partner for any of my grandchildren, particularly Ian who likes to dress up as Harry Potter, gremlin, zombie – even monster.
