Good Old Fashioned Play Time

Best Sage with balloons

Sage displays his low-tech creations.

Although Santa was VERY good to Sage this year, Sage was in the mood for some old-fashioned play time last week. He made a cap that, as he was eager to explain, could double as a boat.

He then made a barn out of paper that he quickly converted into an airplane hangar, an appropriate shift given that paper airplanes represent a large part of Sage’s oeuvre.

He also made a balloon with a face on it and proceeded to invent a balloon toss game with rules that shifted both conveniently and suspiciously.

All in all, Sage did his part to prove that no matter how many toys a kid gets, there’s always room for some non-technological fun. And I find that incredibly reassuring.

  1. Recently, my 10 and 12 year old grands who have enough tech-y stuff at the moment, began playing with balloons I had attached to gifts cards I gave to their parents who both have December birthdays. It kept them amused for quite a while. Love the old-fashioned approach, never out of style.

  2. There’s nothing quite like the imagination of a child.
