The now-buried symbols of hope and renewal…

This pair of snowdrops emerged unexpectedly a week or two ago, blooming alone in the drab brown landscape. I’d forgotten I even planted them, and I saw them as a symbol of hope: the labor I did long ago yielded sudden and surprising flowers. They’re now buried under several inches of snow; who knows what shape they’ll be in (if they’ll even BE there) when the snow finally recedes. So much for my hopeful omens…
